Hash Generator
Generate SHA-256, SHA-512, MD5, CRC32, and HMAC digests
About Hash Generator
How Hash Generator Works
Computes cryptographic digests directly using the W3C Web Cryptography API (crypto.subtle.digest) compliant with NIST FIPS 180-4 (SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512) and MD5. All byte hashing executes in browser memory at native hardware speeds with 0 plaintext data leakage.
The Hash Generator computes cryptographic hashes including SHA-256, SHA-512, MD5, RIPEMD-160, and CRC32 checksums locally in your browser. It also features HMAC signing with secret keys for signature verification and security integrity checks. A typical use case is validating file downloads against known digests, hashing credentials for unit testing, or verifying HMAC webhook payloads from Stripe or GitHub without leaking secrets to third-party servers.
Frequently asked questions
Are hashes computed on the server?+
No. All cryptographic algorithms run client-side in the browser using the Web Crypto and Node-compatible crypto APIs.
Which hash algorithm is recommended for security?+
SHA-256 or SHA-512. MD5 and SHA-1 should only be used for legacy checksums or file deduplication.
What is HMAC?+
HMAC (Hash-based Message Authentication Code) verifies both data integrity and authentication using a shared secret key.
Limitations
Cryptographic hashing is a one-way function and cannot be reversed to discover the original plain text.
